How Is a Weighted Grade Calculated?
A weighted average multiplies each score by its weight, adds those together, and divides by the total weight: Weighted Grade = ฮฃ(Score ร Weight) รท ฮฃ(Weight). This means a test worth 40% of your grade affects your final score four times as much as a quiz worth 10%.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if my weights don't add up to 100%?
That's fine โ this calculator normalizes by the total weight you enter, so the math still works correctly even if your weights sum to something other than 100% (as long as they're proportionally correct relative to each other).
What's the difference between weighted and unweighted grades?
An unweighted average treats every assignment equally regardless of importance. A weighted average reflects the syllabus breakdown โ e.g. homework 20%, quizzes 30%, final exam 50% โ so bigger assessments count for more.
How do I figure out what I need on my final exam?
Enter your known assignment scores and weights, leave the final exam's weight in, and try different scores for the final exam field to see what weighted average results โ this shows you the minimum score you need to hit a target grade.
Does this calculator work for GPA?
This calculates a single class's percentage and letter grade. For overall GPA across multiple classes, you'd need each class's credit hours and grade points, which is a separate calculation.
